Gary Mill is a screenwriter and an author of a book “My Good Lady“, which is a dramatised account of a true story about Dr Elsie Maud Inglis. Gary is a History graduate from Edinburgh University with a lifelong passion for uncovering the remarkable figures of Edinburgh’s past. For over thirty years, he has been fascinated by these historical characters, with a particular interest in the life and legacy of Elsie Inglis. Gary’s connection to Elsie began when his son, Ben, was born at the Elsie Inglis Memorial Maternity Hospital in Edinburgh—an institution that has since become both a care home and children’s nursery.

As Gary’s curiosity about Elsie deepened, he began incorporating details of her extraordinary life into his public presentations during his tenure as an Edinburgh Tour Guide. Elsie Inglis, with her profound impact and inspirational spirit, quickly became a central figure in Gary’s work. His goal has always been to capture, distill, and dramatically convey the heroic achievements of Elsie and the ‘Scottish Women’s Hospitals.’

While Elsie is revered as a national hero in Serbia, her story remains relatively unknown in her native Scotland. Through his work on My Good Lady: Elsie Inglis’ War, Gary aims to preserve and promote the legacy of Elsie and her courageous ‘girls’—women who went to war, healed the wounded, and captured the heart of the Serbian nation in their quest for freedom.
